About Norrsjön

About us and Norrsjön

We who run Norrsjön Gästgifveri are Anna & Daniel. We bought the farm in 2007, and have renovated carefully since then. Since December 1, 2018, we also run Restaurant Dalen in Sörsjön!

We moved here from Stockholm, when we felt it was time to do something new in life. Anna grew up in Sörsjön and has her whole family left here. Daniel grew up in Sundbyberg. We have two sons León and Zack, two dogs and 2 cats.

We are located where Dalarna is most beautiful, about 35 kilometers north of Sälen. The village is called Sörsjön and is the gateway to Fulufjället located right at the foot of the mountain.

With us, you can just be in a relaxing atmosphere. We often hear from our guests that they can really relax here. This is of course something we are proud of and to make our guests feel comfortable and well is our goal.

In addition to a quiet environment and fantastic nature, we offer a number of different activities adapted for the whole family, group of friends, company or for you who come yourself. We collaborate with several local companies and are happy to tailor a program for you as desired. If you want to bring your dog or cat, we have rooms set aside for this very purpose!

At our inn, we are constantly in the process of renovating, but now we have walked around in addition to a small toilet upstairs. All rooms can be seen on what they look like before you book via the BOOK button at the top of the page or under Rooms.

History of Sörsjöns & Norrsjön

In 1796, Garp Jannis Ersson married Maria Ersdotter, both from Transtrand. Their honeymoon, which they did the same year, went to Östdalen (the valley where Sörsjön is located was so called). They settled on the west bank of the Fulu River, where the Fulu River has an extension that was named Sörsjön.

There they built a small low cottage with a room, a small window that sat high on the wall, a low door with a high threshold, split and carved trees for floors and ceilings, on top of the roof twigs and peat. This type of building was called a goose hut. Other simpler buildings were also erected.

The following year they had their first child, Marina, a very common name at that time. She was born on April 12, 1797.

They obtained their food by clearing and cultivating the land and by their livestock. Hunting and fishing were also part of the diet. Flint lock rifles, snares, gill sticks and traps were used for hunting. For fishing, net cages and hooks were used.

The years passed and larger and larger arable areas were cultivated, larger and better houses were built and the cattle herd was expanded.

On October 7, 1805, Jannis and his then 8-year-old daughter were north along the river to fetch hay. When they came to Särkån's outlet on their way home, they were hit by a whirlwind. In combination with the strong backwater, the boat capsized and both father and daughter drowned. The man's body was not found until next spring.

The same autumn, there were two youngsters here; one from Vörderås and one from Höknäs. They were up here to hunt forest birds. They sometimes lived with the widow in her little cottage. The man from Höknäs was named Hans Ersson and was born on April 21, 1779. In the late autumn of 1806, he became Maria's second husband. They had two girls and a boy.Together they built new and larger houses, cleared and bought meadows. Over time, the place became one of the most visited farms in Sörsjön.

Hans also had another farm built, probably with the help of his son Erik. They built a farm, which is still called "Nolabättsin" (meaning north-of the brook). The youngest daughter Elin moved to this farm, since she married Garpa Erik Persson from Berga in 1840.

Then Sörsjön continued to grow. The village had at most just over 500 inhabitants in the 1920s and 1930s. Then there was a relocation; some went to the United States, but most moved to the cities. Now we are about 120 (November 2006) and hope that the village will start to grow again.

About Norrsjön

The large house on the farm Norrsjön was completed as early as 1830. It was Stadig's Olof Olsson who easily built Norrsjön. He married Marina Ersdotter in 1829. Olof was born 17/2 1804 and Marina 19/8 1807. They had 10 children. Both died in 1901. In 1870, Bagg-Ola sold his farm Norrsjön to the forest companies Holter & Borgen Kristiania (Oslo) and moved to his son Erik on Bagg-Olanäset. In 1899, the Norwegian company sold all its forests in Transtrand to Trävaru AB Dalarna. Inspector Grötting was also present.
